Even if you don’t eat like a Neanderthal, these smoothies from Marsden and Matt Whitmore, authors of Fitter Food: A Second Helping, offer a sunnier outlook on everything!
Mint Choc Chip
You’ll need
20g protein powder
1 banana
1 handful spinach
2 dessert spoons cacao powder
3-4 drops peppermint extract
2tsp Xylitol or raw honey
250ml unsweetened almond milk
Cacao nibs to sprinkle on top
Kale Chocolate Ginger
You’ll need
20g vanilla protein powder
2 tbsp cacao powder
1 chunk fresh ginger
1 handful kale
1 banana
2-3 tsp Xylitol or tsp raw honey
250ml unsweetened almond milk
Banana Bread
You’ll need
20g protein powder
1 banana
1 tbsp cashew butter
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp cinnamon
250ml unsweetened coconut or almond milk

Hidden Greens
You’ll need
20g protein powder
1 kiwi, peeled
1 handful strawberries
1 handful kale
1 handful watercress
1 tbsp cashew butter
2 tbsp broccoli sprouts
250ml unsweetened almond milk
Choc Avo Bliss
You’ll need
1 avocado
20g protein powder
2 frozen bananas
1 handful mixed berries
2 tbsp cocoa powder
500ml unsweetened almond or coconut milk
How to make the perfect smoothie
1. Add 15-25g your choice of protein: whey, rice, hemp, pea, collagen, eggs.
2. Add serve of fat: avo, egg yolks, nut butter, nuts, butter, seeds, coconut oil.
3. Add two serves of fruit: berries, banana, kiwi, melon, apple, or mango.
4. Add one-two serves of greens: spinach, kale, lettuce, watercress.
5. Add your mixers: water, lemon juice, coconut water, almond milk.
6. Sweeten to taste: honey, Stevia, Xylitol, medjool dates, dried apricots.
