High protein is the cornerstone of all diets. Not only does protein have a high satiety index, meaning you’ll stay fuller for longer but protein also has a higher thermic effect than carbs and fats.
The thermic effect is the percentage of calories from food that are burned off through digestion. You’ll burn off between 20-35% of protein’s calories, compared to 0-15% for carbs and fats.
NCCA-accredited PT and chef, Derek Howes (aka. The Protein Chef) share his tasty recipe for low carb s’mores.
You’ll need
¼ cup (28g) coconut flour
¼ cup (28g) almond flour
2 tbsp butter
1 large egg
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
1 scoop (30g) The Protein Chef’s baking protein powder
240g reduced fat or fat free cream cheese
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1-2 tbsp chocolate chips
What to do
Step 1: Melt your butter and mix with the flours.
Step 2: Add the mix into the bottom of some silicone cups to create your crust.
Step 3: Bake on 350f/176c for 5-10 minutes.
Step 4: Add in the rest of your ingredients aside from your cocoa powder, chocolate chips and marshmallows into a bowl and
mix together until smooth.
Step 5: Evenly distribute your mix into your cups.
Step 6: Sprinkle on cocoa powder and cut it in with a knife then add your chocolate chips.
Step 7: Bake on 350f/176c for 10-12 minutes then top each cupcake with one marshmallow.
